WORK will intensify in the Temburong Bridge Project following yesterday’s signing of two new contracts, prompting the authorities to advise residents living near the construction zone to be careful when travelling through the area.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Acting Permanent Secretary (Technical and Professional) at the Ministry of Development, Haji Marzuke bin Haji Mohsin said that the scope of work will include the transportation of materials, workers using barges, vessels and floating cranes as well as launching gantries.

The two new contracts dubbed “CC3” and “CC4” which are part of a six-plan package will see the construction of several structures for the navigation bridges, including a single and twin pylon cable stay bridge with respective towers, a connecting viaduct between the tunnel portal under “CC1” with a single pylon Brunei Channel navigation bridge and the Temburong Viaduct of about 11.8 kilometres as well as a bridge crossing Sungai Labu.

Work under “CC3” is expected to be completed within 39 months by February 2019 with construction works scheduled for October this year, whilst “CC4”, also slated to begin construction by October, is expected to reach completion by March 2019.

“The public and all stakeholders will be kept informed of the upcoming works in the affected areas and will ensure that all safety measures and precautions are provided and maintained,” said the Joint Executive Committee for the Proposed Temburong Bridge Project in a statement. The contracts between the Brunei Government and the appointed contractors of local-foreign company partnerships was signed at the Public Works Department headquarters in Berakas in the presence of the Minister of Development, Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman.

The contracts follow the signing of the first construction CC2 package earlier in February for the marine viaduct, which Haji Marzuke bin Haji Mohsin said is progressing well with the preliminary works including the reclamation of docking yard at Serasa as well as material sourcing such as sand and stone for the installation of Bund at Pulau Pepatan.

Once completed, the dual two-lane highway bridge will span about 30 kilometres between Jalan Utama Mentiri in the Brunei-Muara District and Jalan Labu in the Temburong District. The project is to be implemented under a series of construction contract packages.

Also in attendance during the signing ceremony were the ambassadors of China and Korea to Brunei Darussalam, Yang Jian and Cho Won-myung respectively, senior government officers and grassroots leaders.
