BRUNEI Darussalam is a country that never ceases to amaze and right in the heart of the capital city is a beautiful piece of tropical jungle called Tasek Lama Recreational Park (Taman Peranginan Tasek Lama).

The recreational park also acts as a water reservoir that provides much of the city’s drinking water.

It is also is a place for visiting dignitaries invited to plant saplings as a sign of strengthening relationships between their countries and the Sultanate.

Tasek Lama is an ideal place for joggers as the multi-leveled jogging trails and walkways are covered with an all-weather running track which is shock absorbing and skid-resistant.

Visitors with children can take a stroll on the well-maintained roads and walkways or rest their weary feet on the many benches provided while the little ones enjoy themselves on the swings and see-saws at the playground.

There are mini gardens such as the Japanese Garden and some are even equipped with inviting pools where you can dip your aching feet while basking in the beauty of the park.

There is also a reflexology foot path which is aimed at massaging and stimulating acupressure points in the soles of the feet connected to various energy meridians of the body. A handrail provides stability and improves accessibility, particularly for the elderly.

The highlight of the park is the waterfall and visitors can enjoy the magnificent view and unwind while soaking up the beautiful surroundings from a multi-tiered platform.

A 12-metre climbing wall made of fibrous material is constructed next to the natural waterfall and is open to the members of the public.

For those wanting to do strength training whilst surrounded by the great outdoors, there is a mini gym equipped with various equipment targeted at different muscle groups.

If you want a bird eye’s view of city, head up a steep incline and you will reach a lookout tower which offers extraordinary views of buildings and the canopy of the forest.

Feeling a little adventurous? Then try out the Jungle Trail which takes you through Sarang Helang (Bird’s Nest) and Bukit Markuching.

A word of advice, it is best to hike early in the morning or early evenings and please do not feed or tempt to aggravate the macaques in the park.

Tasek Lama Recreational Park is open seven days a week with the exception of Fridays which open from 6am to 12pm and from 2pm to 6pm.

The park is just a short walk from Radisson hotel and 10 minutes from the city centre.

Tasek Lama Recreation Park is a beautiful respite from the city, ideal for all walks of life regardless of age and ideal for a perfect weekend getaway.
